Action 3 News reported on its 10 p.m. newscast Wednesday that the Omaha Royals are in discussions to move the team to Sugarland, Texas if negotiations with Sarpy County fall through.During the segment, both the Omaha Royals and MECA's Roger Dixon acknowledged that the chances of the Royals ever playing at the new downtown ballpark look slim. The Omaha World-Herald has reported that Sarpy County has considered acquiring the Royals and building a new stadium for them. KMTV also reported that the Houston Astros would have to approve of the move, since Major League Baseball rules stipulate that big league teams have final say on what other MLB-affiliated franchises play in their metro area. The OWH had not reported on the potential Sugarland move as of 3 p.m. on Thursday. Sugarland is a suburb of Houston and has a population of about 80,000.
