Rules
We have the advantage of living across the street from a large park. All of the neighborhood kids go there and play, checking on them is as easy as walking across the street. Our oldest 4 and Barbie’s daughter all go there and play and hang out with their little friends.
There are few rules to doing this since we can pretty much keep and eye and ear out for them, not to mention phone calls. The main rule is : No one, under any circumstance is to be in the wooded area at any time ever. Plain and simple.
Last night as I was cutting Jam’s hair, my 4-year-old started to say something about the trees at the park when Jam told her to “ssshhhh”. After being told to shush she looked away slyly and ran off. I yelled at her to freeze and told Jam that if she didn’t come clean about whatever was going on that I’d make her baby sister tell me. So, as I continued to cut her hair she tells me that “it’s no big deal they went into the wooded area and played in the creek earlier today.” I was quietly still cutting her hair and calmly asked why they thought this was “no big deal” and alright to do.
She explained to me that people can still see them and the creek is only inches deep. In other words, my rule about not going there is senseless in their eyes, making it alright to disobey it.
I combed and cut her hair as I listened and started on her bangs. A second later she stopped talking about the park and said “ my bangs ! I told you not to cut my bangs !”
Really ? You did ? Oh well it SUCKS when someone tells you not to do something and they do it anyway doesn’t it !?!?
I didn’t cut her bangs out of malice to be honest, she never said not to cut them, it all just sorta worked out in my favor.

I don't know...
I saw some pretty cute STRAIGHT STRAIGHT cut bangs in a new mag yesterday which went right into the recycle bin so what do I know ha...it was very Joan Jett looking, who happened to turn 50 this week BTW, 50 is the new 30.
Way to go, Jess, you have to be even more protective these days. I have to say I can just imagine when U say "FREEZE!" Sheer terror, my heart races just thinking about it ~ Fellow self-hair cutter here.

O.k All fitted for my Sasquatch costume point me to the kids...
Tawny - she has a point, I remember doing things I was told not to do just to see what would happen. I guess as a parent I don't look at it any other way.

Hmmmmm
I just thought that I would remind you that we were that age once too, granted there were major differences between our childhood and their's but.... You know as well as I do that if we were told not to do something it made it that much harder to resist! We just happened to be smart enough to bribe/threaten the younger one not to say anything!

Life's lessons
Love it!! Sometimes life's lessons are the best! I believe she never told you about the bangs and I bet she was going to but was so in tune with her explanation about why it was "no big deal" that she thought she did. That is karma and justice all at the same time.
