Spanish Radio Stations Growing in Omaha

As the Hispanic population in United States continues to explode like a giant piñata so, too, do the number of radio stations with Spanish formats. Omaha – with an estimated metro area Hispanic population between 50,000 and 75,000 – is no exception.

Baker Pisses Magic Johnson Off

Former Omaha radio talk-show host Chris Baker, now with news-talk KTLK-FM in Minneapolis, made comments on his show last week that have struck a nerve with former NBA great Magic Johnson.

During his 7-11 a.m. show last Wednesday, Baker and co-host Landgon Perry accused Johnsonof faking AIDS.

After Johnson condemned the statements, the station said it regretted “some off hand remarks” by Baker and Perry, according to an Associated Press report.

Dudzik Let Go From KMTV-3

KMTV-3 – Omaha's CBS affiliate – has apparently fired News Director Ken Dudzik. The receptionist at KMTV today (Sept. 19) said, "He no longer works here." KMTV has consistently had poor ratings, and has been No. 3 at 10 p.m. behind KETV-7 and WOWT-6 for several years. The station recently lost one of its co-anchors, Carlo Cecchetto, who left KMTV because of "personal family reasons." We have calls in and hope to have more details by the end of the day.
