Happy Blue Year!
Nov 12, 2008 — When the Creighton Bluejays open their season on Sunday against New Mexico they will be going for their 11th straight 20-win season, something no other men’s basketball team in the 101-year history of the Missouri Valley Conference has done. And only six other teams nationally – Duke, Florida, Kansas, Gonzaga, Kent State and Syracuse – have matched that feat.
Bold Statement
Nov 12, 2008 — In their last chance to make any sort of statement in the first year of the Bo Pelini era, Nebraska stepped up and knocked one out of the park with an important 45-35 win over a decent Kansas team on Saturday. A handful of players stepped up and the coaching staff pulled out all the stops to seal a win that the team needed and the fans were absolutely salivating for.
Shock Talk, November 12
Nov 12, 2008 — So, maybe this is the season. Maybe this is the winter when Nebraska will overtake its neighbor to the northeast for basketball supremacy in the state. Don’t count on it, though.
Shock Talk, November 5
Nov 05, 2008 — So usually, this is the time of year to dust off the trusty “Death to the BCS” column. Well, the plan was to forego such an act in 2008, considering the annual complaints have begun to sound similar every autumn.
Encouraging Words
Oct 29, 2008 — The hosts of 1620 the Zone’s popular “Unsportsmanlike Conduct” show posed a simple question to Husker die-hards on Monday afternoon: Are you encouraged or discouraged by Nebraska’s 32-20 win over Baylor?
Shock Talk
Oct 29, 2008 — So, the National Football League, as we know it today, has been built on flash.
Where It’s At
Oct 22, 2008 — I would never, ever, ever, ever be one to toot my own horn, but after Nebraska handled Iowa State 35-7 on Saturday, what I said in the “Looking ahead…” part of last week’s sideline sounds pretty good in retrospect.
Shock Talk
Oct 22, 2008 — OK, so the column of two weeks ago ended like this: “I’m going with the Red Sox in seven, setting up Dodgers-Red Sox, a ratings dream for the folks at Fox.”
Shock Talk
Oct 15, 2008 — Times like these at least somewhat help to explain what the opponents of a college football playoff system are thinking. I still don’t understand why the NCAA won’t mandate a tiny playoff – how ‘bout a football Final Four? – but the 2008 outlook sort of explains it.
